Five Promotions and a New Hire

Five staff members are recognized with promotions for their contribution to the firm. Andy Mitton and Kelly Rench to Principal, Matt Martenson to Associate, and Stephanie Woirol and Jason Fristensky to Project Manager.

Andy Mitton, Principal: Andy was promoted to principal and partner for his commitment to clients, the firm, and projects of historical significance and ecological benefit. Andy is recognized for his exceptional understanding and application of Olmsted design principles of “open space for all” on projects such as the Washington Park Arboretum’s Loop Trail that is under construction and the New Zealand focal forest. He also serves on the board of the Friends of Olmsted Parks, including a tenure as board president. His award-winning projects include Spotlight Park Awards by the Washington Recreation and Park Association for Jefferson Park in Seattle and Confluence Park in Issaquah, and a Washington Chapter American Planning Association award for the Kent Parks Recreation, Open Space and Trail plan. His current projects include the Snoqualmie Riverwalk Trail, Georgetown Wet Weather Treatment Station and Chateau Ste. Michelle. We are excited to add Andy’s wide range of experience and inclusive approach to management to our leadership team.

Kelly Rench, Marketing Principal: Kelly has led the firm’s marketing efforts since joining the firm in 1997 overseeing proposal development, lead tracking, website management, social media, brand management and public relations. She is the first administration team member to become a principal in acknowledgement of her longtime commitment to the success of the firm. She is a 20-year member of the Society of Marketing Professionals and a North-end Roundtable member. Kelly’s enthusiasm for landing the next big project and genuine interest in developing strong and lasting client relationships has helped maintain the firm’s reputation as one of the most innovative and respected landscape architecture firms in the region.

Matt Martenson, Associate: Matt was named an associate in recognition of his dedication to the firm through his leadership in technology, mentorship and design excellence. His work internally managing our knowledge-sharing capabilities ensures our drawings and construction documents are accurate and implementable. Clients trust Matt to see their projects come to life, true to their vision, down to the smallest of details. Matt began his career at the firm as an intern in 2007 producing an award-winning report on water management strategies and is currently working on reimagining the iconic Riverfront Park, a former World’s Fair site located in Spokane, and the Pike Place Market Waterfront Entrance Expansion. We are pleased to welcome Matt as a member of the firm’s leadership team for his management insight and honest approach to design. Matt holds a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture from the University of Washington.

Jason Fristensky, Project Manager: Jason was promoted to project manager through his dedication to design excellence and mastery of digital software and parametric programs such as Rhino and Revit in support of the firm’s innovative approach to design. He joined the firm as a member of our landscape design staff in 2015 after earning his Master in Landscape Architecture II from the University of Pennsylvania and quickly became an integral team member on several high-profile projects. Jason’s work includes rooftop meadows for a tech firm headquartered on Dexter Avenue, the Georgetown Wet Weather Treatment Station, a garden renovation for a private estate, and the multifamily developments Block 11 and Station House Lofts.

Stephanie Woirol, Project Manager: Stephanie is recognized for her impressive ability to visually communicate complicated information as intuitive graphics, elegant plan drawings, master plans and comprehensive reports. She served as a team member on two award-winning projects: the Kent Parks Recreation, Open Space and Trail plan and the Washington Fruit and Produce Headquarters. She also co-led the firm’s 2014 internship program. Stephanie shares her enthusiasm for creativity by participating in design competitions and projects requiring fun, urban design interventions. She joined the firm after receiving her Master of Landscape Architecture from the University of Oregon. Stephanie is currently working on the Market to MOHAI Pedestrian Trail, the Pike Place Market Waterfront Entrance Expansion, and 8th and Howell, a luxury hotel in downtown Seattle.

Berger Partnership welcomes Anna O’Connell who joins our team as a project manager.

Anna O’Connell, Project Manager: Anna joined to firm late last year and quickly jumped into managing some of the firm’s biggest and most complicated projects. She is currently working with a multidisciplinary team on the Georgetown Wet Weather Treatment Station and is managing early design phases of the Capitol Hill Transit Oriented Development project. Anna’s wide ranging project experience includes multifamily developments, hospitals and higher educational facilities. She holds a Master of Landscape Architecture from the University of Washington and is co-chair of the UW’s Professional Advisory Committee.
