The Supply Laundry Building Receives the 2014 Historic Seattle Sustainable Preservation Award

Vulcan Real Estate and supporting partners such as Runberg Architects and Berger Partnership were recognized for their outstanding adaptive reuse of the Supply Laundry Building as part of the Stack House mixed-use project in South Lake Union. Re-purposed items from this former laundry house, salvaged prior to design commencement, include gears, steel structural members and wood beams from the building. They contribute an industrial flavor, adding warmth and contrast to the cooler concrete and bright colors of the new building. Benches along the east-west axis of the site are constructed of reused timber, steel strapping and mechanical parts. The steel arbors add a visual connection while framing the former smoke stack.

This very cool, very unique project also received a 2014 Washington Chapter ASLA Merit Award for Residential Design. To peruse the site, click here.
