The Vision 2020 Awards are given by the Puget Sound Regional Council, in an effort to encourage their vision for the region’s growth. VISION 2020 is a common, overarching vision for directing growth into urban areas and regional growth centers in an environmentally responsible way, fostering economic development, and providing efficient transportation. It seeks to create vibrant, livable urban areas.
The Berger Partnership joined Torti Gallas & Partners, Lorig & Associates and the Tacoma Housing Authority for this mixed-use (primarily housing) redevelopment in Tacoma, WA. Salishan was originally built in the 1940’s as housing for ship workers and later became public housing. The redevelopment will transform the area into 1,200 homes, local retail, senior housing, a health clinic, and Education/Technology Center and an expanded community center. The project also focused to restore the water quality of the T-Street Gulch which ultimately flows into the Swan Creek.
