The Berger Partnership Joins the Cascadia Center Design Team

March 25th, 2010

We are excited to announce that The Berger Partnership will be working with the Bullitt Foundation on the new 6-story Cascadia Center for Sustainable Design and Construction on Capitol Hill. The project will be the first of its kind, aspiring to meet the Living Building Challenge off-site link, developed by the Green Building Council in 2006. “Our role is to work with the design team to integrate the landscape with the wastewater and stormwater systems; but most importantly, our job is to connect the project to the public, both neighbors and passersby,” says Rachael Meyer.

You can read more over at Seattle Times off-site link or visit the Bullitt Foundation off-site link for more information.

Gateway to Chile at Washington Park Aboretum

March 10th, 2010

Gateway to Chile will be the first element of the Pacific Connection Gardens at Washington Park Arboretum off-site link to reach out to Lake Washington Boulevard. Because of its prominent location there is a unique ability to raise awareness of what is going on in the Arboretum. The work associated with this phase is a small portion of the planned Chilean Exhibit. This is truly a “Gateway” project for the Pacific Connections garden that encompasses the historic Holmdahl rockery. The rockery will be carefully restored by removing vegetation from on and around the rockery, and will uncover stones that are currently hidden. Once the rockery has been restored it will be planted with a mix of some of the more striking over story and under story species appropriate to the Chilean collection. Large Chilean wine palm, Monkey Puzzle trees, and Chilean Firecracker tree will set the stage while Inca lilies and feather grass will provide a textural ground plane and accent the rockery.

We encourage you to attend the public tour Wednesday at 5:30 p.m., starting at the south end of the parking lot at Washington Park Playfield. A public meeting is set to follow on March 16 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Graham Visitor Center in the arboretum.
