WWII memorial
olympia, wa
Dedicated in 1999, this memorial honors the Washington State residents who fought and died in World War II. The memorial was inspired by themes from the song "America the Beautiful." In order to capture our nation's spacious and natural beauty the memorial is set in harmony within an open grass field and surrounding mature trees. Other elements of the memorial include five vaulting bronze leaves and thousands of life size bronze stalks of wheat that generate a harmonizing hum with the wind.
