The Crag

Seen any wooden crags lately? The Street Seat competition just held in Portland inspired staff members to develop the Crag as a seating option to take the place of a parking space. The Crag is inspired by a rocky crag forced from the earth’s core to rise and prevail in a surrounding sea of asphalt. Its sculptural quality and angular ledges offer curious pedestrians opportunities to climb, sit, and rest upon the Crag as one might do during a Cascade hike. While the Crag unfortunately did not rise to the finalists list, two fascinating submittals did along with a runner up. The finalists were Log Dam by Hennebery Eddy Architects and A Dialogue by Scott | Edwards Architecture, and the runner up was the Hole Pavilion by Robert Hutchison Architecture. They can be viewed here.
