Westlake Park

Seattle, WA

Reimagining Westlake Park is an opportunity to provide much-needed upgrades to downtown Seattle’s largest central gathering space. The population of downtown is growing, and there are increasing needs for park elements that supports the urban neighborhood. The project will also look for opportunities to support the FIFA World Cup when the world comes to Seattle in 2026.

The project aims to unify the park’s spaces while improving access and the ability to host events. Upgrades may include removing barriers to allow people to easily enter the space, while adding seating, plantings, a new playground, improved lighting, modernizing existing infrastructure, performing electrical upgrades to support artistic lighting elements and audio needs, and repairing damaged paving while preserving its iconic basket-weave pattern.

The design process has included meetings with stakeholders and city agencies, as well as a public meeting and survey to learn more about the community’s priorities for this beloved space.
