Kent Multicultural Village

The Kent Multicultural Village (MCV) is a visionary, transit-oriented development that integrates affordable housing with inclusive community services and culturally rich outdoor spaces. Designed in partnership with Open Doors for Multicultural Families and Mercy Housing Northwest, MCV will provide 233 affordable homes, over half of which are family-sized, adjacent to the future Kent Des Moines light rail station.

Landscape and outdoor design play a central role in fostering community identity and well-being. The site is intentionally crafted to reflect the cultural and ecological history of the region, with views oriented toward Mount Tahoma, the Salish Sea, and the Duwamish River Valley. Indigenous and multicultural motifs are woven into the landscape through ethnobotanical plantings and public art, creating a sense of belonging and honoring the land’s heritage.

Outdoor spaces are designed to be inclusive and accessible, supporting residents of all abilities. These areas serve as extensions of the Family Resource Center and Early Learning Center, encouraging intergenerational interaction, play, and reflection. The landscape not only enhances livability but also reinforces the project’s commitment to equity, cultural expression, and environmental stewardship—making MCV a place where community and nature thrive together.
