Our Residential Process

Berger Partnership began as an office focused on residential landscape architecture, and for more than four decades, we’ve built close relationships with clients and suppliers. The intimate scale of residential projects, the opportunity for creativity, and the chance to collaborate closely with clients continue to fuel our enthusiasm and recognition for residential garden design.

Plant Material Expertise
Plant materials can be used to create spaces; to develop themes and sequences of color, texture, form, and fragrance; to relate to or contrast with existing or adjacent conditions; and to reflect the personality of the owner. Berger Partnership brings a broad base of historical knowledge about plant materials, optimal species and variety selection, and performance and maintenance requirements. Our gardens reflect a deep care for the thoughtful use of plant materials and embody a philosophy of stewardship for natural resources. The result is memorable, lasting, and meaningful landscape design.

Project Approach
A properly maturing landscape fulfills the intent of the design over time, evolving into a pattern of spaces and views that work in harmony. Our deep understanding of regional maintenance needs, soil and climate limitations, specifications, details, and horticulture—combined with our strong ties to the Northwest nursery industry—provides a solid foundation for enduring beauty. We are driven by design innovation and long-term success, with an approach that is responsive to the needs of the client, end user, and site.

Design Team Role and Communication
Berger Partnership plays an essential role—whether working directly with the client as design consultant or as part of a larger design team. Every project begins with understanding the goals of the client and their team or owner’s representative, forming the basis for thoughtful design. We coordinate closely with local jurisdictions to ensure timely permitting and full compliance with zoning and regulatory requirements.

“Residential landscapes are personal — they’re where design meets daily life. I love the intimacy of shaping spaces that people truly live in.”
